Candlemas is a Christian holiday celebrated annually on February 2. In the Anglican Church, it is celebrated the Sunday closest to this date. Christians commemorate three occasions: the presentation of the child Jesus; Jesus’ first entry into the temple; and the Virgin Mary’s purification. St. Augustine's concluded this Candlemas by lighting the candle of Christ to symbolize that we can be His light in the world. Click here to read more about the tradition of Candlemas.
