Worthington Christian Village Visits This Sunday

Worthington Christian Village visitation is a ministry of St. Augustine’s Anglican. Started by a middle-school parishioner several years ago at the birth of our parish, a team of folks gathers once a month in the lobby of WCV at 2:00pm and travels to the 6th floor to visit God’s children.  Carl and Fr. Terry are leading this mission now, and they seek your support on the 3rd Sunday of every month – for just an hour.

This Sunday, July 16th, brings another opportunity to share the joy of Christian love with others. Will you join us?

Join Bethany and Carl (or Just Carl) at WCV This Sunday!

A Word from Bethany:  Join us on May 21st at Worthington Christian Village for fellowship and new friends. Carl will be in charge once again as his delinquent girlfriend visits family on exactly the weekends that she’s responsible for things. Carl and Dondra have been doing a great job as the core of this mission, and they welcome any and all — newcomers and veterans alike — to this important and enjoyable mission to a group of people who love to see a friendly face and welcome us as witnesses to Christ’s love in action.

If you are changed by God to make a difference for God, then maybe this is the ministry for you! Come Sunday at 2:00pm to the lobby of WCV. We’ll go upstairs to the 6th floor together, and spread some of God’s joy to those who need His love!

Oh, the People You Will Meet at Worthington Christian

This Sunday Dondra and I visited Worthington Christian Village and met a number of amazing residents there. Before we even got the sixth floor, we met a gentleman in the lobby who, in his later years, ended up writing two grammar books, an amazing feat for anyone, let alone someone who took up writing in his 50s! Then it was up to the sixth floor, where we met a trio of ladies—Rosemary, Louise, and Virginia—who were all in their 90s, but still vivacious and living life to the fullest. Similar to our trip last month, I was struck by how much these people relied on God and how they have lived and still are living their life to the fullest. Join us in April for a chance to meet these wonderful people and others: you might be surprised at how much you take away from the experience!

–Carl

Dog Days of Summer at Worthington Christian Village

WCV July 2016

The good folks of St. Augustine’s visited the good folks on the 6th floor on a beautiful summer Sunday. And, along with the two-legged creatures, Orion Dawg and Willie Dawg brought cheer to the residents and staff — that is after they had a bark-off in the hallway!!!  We aren’t going to say that St. Augustine’s has gone to the dogs, but the Darlings, new members of the team, have two beautiful therapy dogs that they may bring in the future. We do whatever it takes to bring a smile to God’s children at WCV!

Easter Season Visit to WCV Reveals Good Stuff!

WCV April 2016Some Sunday schedules don’t work out right for visiting, and this past week was one of those times for our regular team members. But, fear not:  a couple of second-string Worthington Christian Village members brought smiles  to a couple of dear friends. Cliff told Sarah Beth how to make cornbread waffles. Dondra “might” have fudged a bit by telling Cliff Sarah Beth likes to cook, but he didn’t seem to mind that the truth was stretched. Dorrie, quite the athlete in her day, agreed that not all athletically-coordinated women can dance. Apparently, Sarah Beth falls in that category.  It’s amazing what you find out from these grand souls when you drop by on a spring afternoon.
Want to come next time?  May 15th! Bring your cookbooks and dancing shoes! 🙂 Sarah Beth will be cooking and dancing – of course!!

50 Days of Easter: A Visit to Worthington Christian Village

Photo Grid for Worthington_final

Dear St. Augustine’s Friends and Family,

In 2011, Sarah, a middle-schooler, and her mom organized a new St. Augustine’s ministry to Worthington Christian Village. We have visited the good folks on the 6th floor for the past five years, serving as Christ’s hands and feet to those in the last stages of their earthly life.

As we seek to work for God during the 50 Days of Easter, Sunday brings an opportunity to show your Christian faith. Once again, we will meet at 2:00pm in the lobby of Worthington Christian Village and travel together to the 6th floor for an hour’s visit.

My doggie friends, Orion and Sir Winston, have made several visits to WCV and keep coming back. If you have not made a visit before, please consider Sunday. Several of our regular two-legged members cannot attend this week, and we need your help!  You may find this hour one of your best this month.

Auggie the Doggie

Sincerely,                       Auggie the Doggie

Rejoicing with Music at Worthington Christian Village in December

The team arrived at WCV right at 2:00 on Sunday afternoon – Orion Dog in tow – for a special 6th Floor concert provided by our own, Tanya and Ken Matsuda.

But…no one was in the gathering room, even though WCV had announced the concert to the residents early in the week.

Then, something glorious happened. Tanya and Ken began to play, and they came – from all three halls, on their own steam or using walkers. Settling in, the men and women joined the Matsudas, the Feisters, and the Quayles in songs of the season. An extra surprise was Fr. Ron singing in German, and Ken singing Silent Night in his native tongue, Japanese.

One request followed another until a whole hour had passed. A resident wanted to know if we could have another concert soon.  Yes, the Matsudas said, and Tanya suggested a song-fest of old hymns, perhaps in January.  After all of the Christmas carols, we sang In the Garden as our closing.

But there was one more song:  Happy Birthday for Rosie, who will turn 100 in January.

This morning, our seminarian-in-residence, Terry Gatwood, preached a sermon, A Song Worth Singing. He concluded by singing the chorus to an old-time hymn:

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord,
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father, through Jesus the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He has done.

This was a day to praise the Lord – in worship at St. Augustine’s –  and at Worthington Christian, where we gave God the glory as the people rejoiced in the Lord’s gift of song!

Visit with Young, Old, and Furry at Worthington Christian

St. Augustine’s brought three newbies to visit at Worthington Christian Village on this November day: Terry and son, Sam; and Fr. Philip. Of course, we had the “regulars” with us, too, including Orion Dog, who promptly connected with the great-grandson of one of the 6th Floor residents. He seems to get most of the attention when the team visits, but any creature who brings a smile on the faces of these good souls makes us all happy.

We have a few openings for our next visit the third Sunday in December. Won’t you give it a try?  You will come away with a warm feeling in your heart that you made a difference for God’s children.

Four-Legged and Two-Legged Friends Visit WCV

Dogs and people traveled to Worthington Christian Village on Sunday to see the dear folks on the 6th floor. Mr. Orion, always the hit, was “handled” by both Sarah Beth and Fr. Ron, as we made the rounds from room to room.  Along the way, he managed to consume an entire bag of treats and caused many smiles to appear when he stopped by.   Come join us next month – the third Sunday – at 2:00. You will make a difference for God!

St. Augustine’s Anglican Church

We believe we are changed by God to make a difference for God. St. Augustine's is Anglican in its design: rich in liturgy, Biblically-based preaching, traditional and contemporary music. We worship with a sense of mystery, contemplation, and majesty as we bring an ancient Christian faith to our world today.
